Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) are an integral part of each Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Student organizations provide opportunities for students to gain leadership skills, participate in academic and technical skills competitions, attend CTSO leadership conferences, and participate in community service and fundraising projects designed to “give back” to individuals, organizations and the community.
The Heritage High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) student organization have scheduled several community service and fundraiser events throughout the school year. Pat Sullivan and Heather Grosze, the FBLA sponsors, provide both inspiration and leadership to seventy-five student members. Students are encouraged to identify needs within the community and explore ways that the FBLA students can “give back” through their service and/or contributions.
Participation in community service projects has a positive impact on students, sponsors, benefactors and the community. Research indicates that students who are actively engaged in community service gain skills in problem-solving, working collaboratively within a team or group and the opportunity to network with community members, business representatives, organization leaders that could lead to future service or career opportunities.
Throughout the upcoming months, FBLA students and sponsors from Heritage High School will be busy with the community service projects and extend an invitation to business partners and community members to join them as they strive to make a positive impact on the community.

November 13: Spirit Night at CiCi’s Pizza to benefit NWA Children’s Hospital
November 17: “Purple Out” March of Dimes event to raise awareness of premature births
Students will also be busy during the month of November making blankets for patients during treatment at Highlands Oncology.
December 2017
Several events have been planned for the month of December including an Ugly Sweater event and granting “Christmas Wishes” for residents of Souls Harbor. FBLA students will also participate in Leaf Day, which is an event that offers leaf removal to neighbors of Heritage High School. This special event is hosted by Heritage High School. January 2018
Begin the Valentine Card project will provide Valentine Cards created by FBLA students to the Children’s Advocacy Center.
February 2018
FBLA students are exploring opportunities to hold Spirit Nights at local businesses.
March 2018
FBLA students will tour the NWA Children’s Hospital
April 2018
FBLA students and sponsors will volunteer and organize a team to participate in the local Race For A Cure event.
May 2018
The Heritage High School FBLA organization will team up with sponsors to prepare for the annual Glow Run that is held in Rogers. Proceeds from the Glow Run will benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Throughout 2018, there will be many opportunities for Rogers Public School students in both middle school and high school to participate in community service projects through Career & Technical Student Organizations or as classroom service project that will help build leadership skills and increase the awareness of the importance of service to others and the community.
